EAMCET flip-flop scares colleges

The TS government’s frequent change in stance over EAMCET has been giving jitters not only to students, but also to professional colleges.

The TS government, which has been talking about a common EAMCET all these days, has suddenly changed its stance and is now pitching for a separate EAMCET. Colleges are thus worried that if TS conducts its own EAMCET, it will sound the death knell for professional colleges in Telangana state, especially Hyderabad, with few admissions from Seemandhra students. They fear that common admissions for 10 years, as had been promised in the AP Reorganisation Act, would be affected if separate EAMCET are conducted.

They say that common admissions with separate EAMCET for TS and AP would not be possible as it may invite legal problems while giving rankings in Eamcet and during counselling. There is already an oversupply of seats in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and neighbouring districts.

Even Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan had announced recently that EAMCET would be held in accordance with the AP Reorganisation Act. Though the AP government was forced to agree to separate Inter exams due to a tough stand by the TS government, it is not willing to agree for a separate EAMCET to protect the interests of Seemandhra students and is planning to move the SC once the TS officially comes out with its EAMCET schedule.
