Eamcet schedule, big relief for students

The decades-old Eamcet is all set to undergo big changes this year thanks to recent Supreme Court the directions prescribing fresh deadlines for state governments to complete the admission process for engineering courses across the country.

The AP State Council of Higher Education is in the process of drafting the changes, which will be
announced on January 8.

For the first time, it will announce the schedule for announcing Eamcet results and counselling for admissions along with Eamcet notification. All these years, students were clueless about when the results would be announced and from when the counselling would commence.

In Eamcet-2012, students had to wait till June 30 to know the results though the test was conducted on May 12 due to delay in the release of Intermediate sup
plementary and improvement results since 25 per cent weightage is being given for inter marks in Eamcet.

Students had to wait till
September for the first phase of Engineering counselling to commence due to delay in fee fixation by the government. Classes for all the students commenced in November after the completion of second phase counselling and spot admissions. With this, students lost nearly six months.

To overcome this, the APSCHE is planning to do away with giving weightage for Inter marks secured in supplementary and improvement exams.

This means that marks secured in the Inter exams in March will only be considered from this year.
Based on SC orders, the All India Council for Technical Education has directed all states to hold common entrance tests (Eamcet in the case of AP) in May and release results by June 5 every year. The first phase of counselling should conclude by June 30 and second phase by July 10. If needed, the third phase must be held and concluded by July 20. The entire process should be completed by July 30 and classes have to commence from August 1. However, a grace period of 15 days will be given till August 15.

The AICTE will grant fresh approvals and renewal of approvals by April 10. The approval process must end by May 15. The APSCHE would, thus, bring in changes in conducting Eamcet, which is likely to be held on May 11 or 12, this year.
