Eamcet to take only state rank

Hyderabad: The state rank will be taken into consideration in Eamcet counseling, and the local rank could be ignored, triggering a fresh controversy between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Eamcet ranks were given in two categories in both the states this year, on the pattern followed in undivided AP. Officials say only the state rank — given on statewide merit — will be taken into consideration while giving admissions in the counseling.

They say the local rank only indicates where the student stands in the respective region and cannot be a criterion for final admission. Local ranks were given in undivided AP to provide equitable opportunities to students from the Andhra, Rayalaseema and TS regions. Undivided AP was split into the Osmania University region covering Telangana districts, Andhra University region covering coastal Andhra and the Sri Venkateswara University region covering Rayalaseema districts.
