Ed.Cet 2014 Counseling from July 21

M Nagaraju of Hyderabad, Janardhan Gaddam of Nalgonda, Shaik Noor Mahammad of Kadapa, Nandibattini Nandeeswara Kumar of Kurnool and C Samuel of Rangareddy district, secured top ranks in mathematics, physical sciences, biological sciences, social studies and English methodologies respectively in the EdCET 2014.

Human Resource Development minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao along with Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) chairman L Venugopal Rao released the results at Andhra University here on 19th June.

About 1.66 lakh candidates appeared for all the methodologies of EdCET 2014 held on May 30. Of them, 1.49 lakh appeared for the examination and 1.47 lakh were qualified, registering a pass percentage of 98.78 per cent. While female candidates scored cent per cent results in the methodologies of mathematics and physical sciences, males outscored their female counterparts in the remaining three methodologies.

Among the university areas, Osmania University registered a qualified per cent of 98.72 with 97,477 of 98,745 candidates clearing the exam. However, the highest pass percentage was registered by Andhra University with a qualified percentage of 99.04 with 28,048 of 28,319 candidates qualifying in the exam. Of the 19,711 candidates, 19,462 have qualified in the test recording 98.74 qualified percentage. Another 516 non-local candidates also qualified in the examination.

The EdCET 2014 convener N Venkata Rao said the test was held on May 30 in 349 centres in 42 cities and towns in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. He said that the counseling is tentatively scheduled to be held from July 21 and the classes are likely to commence in August. Andhra University vice-chancellor GSN Raju presided over the function. Anakapalle MP Muthamsetty Srinivasa Rao, Amalapuram MP Ravindrababu and Ankapalle MLA Peela Govind and others were present.

On the occasion, Srinivasa Rao asked the Andhra University officials to prepare the proposals for developing the university on the lines of a central university. "Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada-Guntur and Tirupati clusters have been selected in principle for establishment of 11 national- level educational institutions. As we have decided to establish the Central university at Tirupati, the state government will extend all help for development of Andhra University to improve its facilities," he added.
