Engineering admissions drop further

Admissions in engineering courses are likely to witness further drop this year as more students have opted out of the stream, according to official information. As the deadline for making corrections in web options ended on 15th September evening at 9 pm, as many as 1,573 rankers have stayed away. While the total number of candidates who attended for certificate verification was 1,30,289, the number of rankers who have given their options was only 1,28,716, marking a decline in the number. This is in addition to nearly 800 rankers who have already decided to skip the web counselling and taken away their certificates from the officials.

The seat allocation will be done on September 17 at 6 pm and students have to join their respective colleges on September 23. It remains to be seen how many more would drop out at the time of joining. It is expected that more than 1.75 lakh seats out of a total of 3.46 seats would remain unfilled this year.

Officials have announced that the second round of counseling will commence from September 24 to 27, depending upon the joining. A total of 47,723 rankers have changed their options and the total number of options received were 41, 26,650, according to Dr. Raghunath, Chief Counseling Camp Officer. The situation in ICET is no different as just 55 781 have attended for certificate verification.
