Fee for MBBS, BDS Courses Likely to be Enhanced by Rs 1 Lakh

The fee for medical courses is likely to be increased by Rs. 1 lakh per year, if the state government approves the recommendations of the Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC). The AFRC is proposing a common fee for both MBBS and BDS colleges in the state on the lines of engineering colleges. The fee structure for engineering colleges was fixed earlier.

From 2014-15 academic year onwards, the AFRC is proposing to streamline the fee structure for MBBS and BDS colleges too. Two types of fee would be fixed both for private and government medical colleges sources said. The fee for MBBS colleges per year was now Rs. 4 lakh and once the new fee structure was implemented the fee per year would go up to Rs. 5 lakh. However, whether the government would implement the recommendations of the AFRC or not remains to be seen, as there was no elected government in the state. Any increase in the fee due to the reforms would cause a burden on the respective state governments of Telangana and AP, as they have to reimburse the fee for weaker section students.

AFRC so far did not issue any notification. Once, it issues notification then a clarity would emerge whether the new fee structure would be implemented from this academic year or not. Actually, the common fee structure was supposed to be implemented in MBBS and BDS colleges from 2013-14 academic year.
