Finally, a solution in sight for EAMCET counseling

In all probability, the Telangana government will issue a GO on Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) counseling in a week and counseling will be started in the first or second week of August, according to sources.

Sources in Telangana government said that the government which had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking extension of the counseling to October would appraise the court with regard to the GO. "If everything goes according to the plan, the counseling would commence from the first or second week of August," said a government official.

The indecision of the Telangana government is mainly due to its streamlining of the fee reimbursement scheme, now called FAST. "Once the guidelines proposed by the expert committee get chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s nod, they will pave the way for counseling," a government official said.

It may be noted that the Andhra Pradesh government was ready to conduct the Eamcet counseling and had issued a GO pertaining to it. Confirming issuance of the GO, Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development minister Ganta Srinivas Rao said that they were waiting for a GO by the Telangana government.

Medical admissions are no different from the engineering. Though EAMCET results were declared on June 9, a notification for counseling is yet to come out. Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh health minister Kamineni Srinivas had said that a notification would be released and the counseling would commence from August 4, so far there has been no headway in the process.

As the admissions remain common for the both states as per AP re-organization Act, the indecision of the Telangana government has created a stumbling block for the students.

The Supreme Court in the earlier ruling directed the united Andhra Pradesh government that EAMCET counseling should be completed by July end and the classes shall commence from August 1. About 2.80 lakh students appeared for engineering entrance exam (EAMCET) on May 22 while nearly 98,000 students had appeared for the medical entrance test. There are around 3.19 lakh engineering seats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh while there are 6,700 medical seats in both the states.
