From designing to CA

Hyderabad : “I never really thought about what I wanted to become. All I knew was that whatever I do, I want to excel in that field,” says Nikita Bung, who started her journey to become a Chartered Accountant by writing Common Proficiency Test (CPT) in May 2007.

“I scored a 164 out of 200, but missed out on an all India rank,” says Nikita with disappointment, adding, “But, I did manage to score an all India 58th rank in the next exam called PCE (Professional Competence Exam). That was a great moment for me, but the expectations of my family and boss had risen immensely.”

Nikita, who completed her articleship under Dogliya and Co., believes that the practical experience that she gained during her work helped her a lot towards achieving her goal. “The practical exposure is always different from what one learns from the books,” says Nikita, who believes that her quest for excellence has helped her achieve her goal. But, this current CA, was earlier planning on becoming a fashion designer.

Ask her how this change happened, and she explains, “My family wanted me to become a doctor, but I knew that science was not my cup of tea. So, after my tenth exams, I attempted an aptitude test and it said that my inclination is towards arts. That is when I thought that I should get into fashion designing and also took up a diploma course.” She adds, “But, soon I realised that my calling was CA. I thought it was an interesting field and took it up right after I finished my Inter.”

Four years down, and after achieving her target, what would be her next step? “I haven’t given it a thought yet. But I would definitely want to study further. Everything comes for a price. I had to give up on a college campus life for this because of the mandatory internship that we have to complete in order to finish the course. So, my next step will be to take up an MBA course,” she says. “Earlier I used to feel bad that I was missing out on the conventional student life, but now, I feel that it was all worth it!” adds Nikita before signing off.
