GITAM Admission Test (GAT-2011) results released

VISAKHAPATNAM: Rank lists of GITAM Admission Test (GAT-2011) for B.Tech and M.Tech courses were released here on Monday.
The online test was conducted on all-India basis from April 16 to May 5 in 20 cities across the country.

As many as 36,200 students from all the States appeared for the test and 85 per cent of them were from the Andhra Pradesh, GITAM Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam told media persons. Forty percent of the candidates were women, Prof. Subramanyam said.

All the top ten rankers are from the Andhra Pradesh and GITAM would give them a total fee waiver in B.Tech. For those who secured from 11th to 100th ranks, a 50 per cent fee waiver would be given, he said.

Rank lists

The rank lists are available on the University website www.gitam.edu, he said.

The online counselling for B.Tech would be held at Hyderabad, Tirupathi, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam from June 11 to 14 and for M.Tech programmes, it would be conducted at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam on June 15. Classes for first year students would commence from the first week of July, he added.

Prof. Subramanyam said that those who qualified in the GATE were exempted from GAT-2011, but they should apply to the University for Admission. GITAM University would give direct admission to first rankers of all State and Central boards in the branch of their choice, irrespective of their rank in GAT, he said.

New branches

GITAM was starting two new engineering branches, a five-year B.Arch and a four-year B.Tech. (Aeronautical Engineering) in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad campuses, he said. Admission into B.Arch. is based on the score obtained by a candidate in the National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA) which is conducted by the Architecture Council of India which had identified GITAM as one of the NATA test centre, he said.

Pro Vice-Chancellor D. Harinarayana, Registrar M. Potharaju, Admissions Director J.A. Chandulal, and Institute of Technology principal D. Prasada Rao were present.
