GITAM online admission test from today

VISAKHAPATNAM: GITAM University's all-India online GITAM Admission Test (GAT)-2011 will commence on Saturday at 20 centres across the country, Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam said on Friday.
Around 40,000 students are appearing for the test through which admission will be made into 10 branches of B.Tech. and 13 specialisations in M.Tech. programmes. GAT 2011 will conclude on May 5.

Duration of the test is two hours and all questions are of objective type (multiple choice questions).

A candidate will get admission only if he or she has minimum marks in the qualifying examination.

The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained in the GAT-2011, Mr. Subrahmanyam said.

The online test would be conducted at Bengalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Guntur, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jamshedpur, Kanpur, Kolkota, Kurnool, Kota, Nagpur, Patna, Rajahmundry, Raipur, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Warangal and Visakhapatnam.

A candidate can choose his or her test centre and date and would know the score immediately after completing the test.

Results

The results would be announced on May 12.

Those having GATE qualification are exempted from GAT-2011, but they have to apply to the university for admission.

GITAM University would give direct admission to first rankers of all State and Central boards in the branch of their choice, irrespective of their rank in GAT, he said.

Prof. Subramanyam said GITAM University is starting two new engineering branches, a five-year B.Arch and a four-year B.Tech. (aeronautical engineering) in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad campuses respectively from the ensuing academic year.

B.Arch admissions

Admission into B.Arch. is based on the score obtained by a candidate in the National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA) which is conducted by the Architecture Council of India.

‘A' category varsity

GITAM is a Ministry of Human Resource Development “A” category deemed university in India and the top rated deemed university in Andhra Pradesh.

It is placed 74th among the Indian Universities in recent web rankings, Prof. Subramanyam said.
