Giving Students a Head Start

Microsoft India has announced a new program targeted at the country's student community to give them a head start in the job market. Called Microsoft Academia Accelerator, the program will collaborate with 10 of the countries top engineering colleges to enhance their curriculum of Computer Science. This collaboration will help in generating greater student-driven innovation and entrepreneurship.

Talking about the program,Vinod Anantharaman, Head of Business Management, Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt Ltd, said, "India produces some of the world?s finest engineering talent, much of who get started on their journeys at our top engineering colleges. By implementing this program, they will get a chance to learn and experience the critical technologies which gives them a better understanding and exposure. The curriculum of the program is divided into two components -- a series of workshops that span a wide spectrum of topics relevant to the modern-day high technology industry and a series of student hackathons which give all students an opportunity to work in teams to build modern, real-world applications that leverage the latest Microsoft platforms including Mobile and Cloud.

The workshops will be designed as per the availability of the faculty in the respective engineering colleges. These workshops will give an in-depth understanding about the Agile Practices in Software Engineering, Smartphone Trends, Cloud Computing, Online Advertising, Big Data and Web Mining and will be handled by seasoned Microsoft engineers.

The students are made to work in teams to come up with conceiving and implementing original apps for these platforms within 24 hours, with the full support and guidance of Microsoft mentors present at these events.

The top teams will be a part of the finalist forum where the students will get a chance to refine their talent and make use of the opportunity to reach greater heights in the future. The main focus is based on pure technology or code into other equally important determinants of success, such as user experience, design, customer value propositions, etc.
