Governor seeks information on EAMCET counseling delay

State Council for Higher Education chairman Prof. L. Venugopala Reddy met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on 16th July, and apprised him on the reasons delaying Eamcet counseling. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had met the Governor on Tuesday, and had requested him to intervene to resolve the fee reimbursement stalemate that is delaying the counseling.

It is learnt that Governor Narasimhan asked Prof. Reddy about the controversy and reasons for the delay. Prof. Reddy told him about the disagreements between the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments over who will reimburse the fees of Andhra students studying in Telangana. "Unless the issue is resolved, counseling cannot be held," Prof. Reddy told the Governor.

He also told him about the various other impediments, and the implications the decision taken by the governments can have as the education system is common."The Governor just wanted to get all information about the controversy so that he is well informed before meeting Telangana government officials over the issue," an SCHE official said.

The SCHE will conduct the Eamcet and a joint committee has already been formed comprising the technical education principal secretaries of both the states. The Andhra Pradesh government has been asking the Governor to intervene in the issue after the Telangana government made it clear that it would not pay the fees of Andhra students studying in Telangana. Andhra Pradesh, however, has been insisting that the Telangana government should pay for its students since denying them fees is "against Constitutional provisions."
