IIIT-H sets up lab for embedded systems

HYDERABAD: International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad has set up a state-of-the-art embedded systems laboratory, which will be a part of the Institute's Centre for VLSI Design and Embedded System Technologies (CVEST), a press release said. The laboratory has been set up in collaboration with NXP Semiconductors.

The lab, called as NXP Semiconductors Lab, was inaugurated on Thursday, April 21 by Director, IIIT-H, Professor, Rajeev Sangal and Vice-president, NXP India, Neeraj Paliwal.

Research

“The lab will help our students and faculty to undertake research on cutting edge technologies, test new ideas on a real-time basis and develop high end embedded system products,” in-charge of the lab and Assistant Professor, Dr. P. Vijaya Sankara Rao.

“The lab further strengthens the infrastructure capabilities of CVEST and will help to do research in leading edge technologies,” Professor Rajeev Sangal said. It was in January that NXP, India had launched an industry-academia initiative called NXP Anubhav to set up advanced research technology labs at top engineering institute in India, the press release said.

Twenty labs

“We plan to set up 20 labs across India in 2011 and be actively involved in partnering with them to bring industry knowledge into academia,” said VP, NXP, India, Mr. Neeraj Paliwal. Dean, Research and Development, Professor P. J. Narayanan, Registrar, Professor R. Govinda Rajulu and many other top IIIT officials were present.
