Indian Institutes of Technology admit to errors in JEE papers

Hyderabad: After lowering the cut-off marks for IIT admissions on June 12, the IITs on Monday admitted errors in JEE (Main) question papers in physics and mathematics.
ITs, which released JEE answer keys last week, corrected the errors and came out with modified keys. This is the first time in the history of JEE that the IITs publicly conceded to errors in question papers and made corrections, following Delhi High Court directions in May over a public interest litigation.

IITs received the objections in the answer keys from stakeholders following HC orders and found that there were errors. In physics, in its first answer key released on June 8, IITs claimed the correct answer for question 12 was either option C or D, while it was supposed to be C and D. Students who marked either C or D got full four marks, while students who marked both C and D got only 2.

The modified answer key has added C and D also as correct answer giving four full marks to all.

IITs admitted error in mathematics question number 48, Paper II, related to non-coplanar vectors where the correct answer was 9. The modified answer key now says that ?considering the level of the question, 4 marks will be awarded to all the candidates?.

Now all the candidates, irrespective of attempting this question or not, will get four marks. This question did not carry any negative marks. So now, candidates who did will get 4 marks.
