Inter results rush hits eSeva services

With servers unable to handle load, issue of birth, death certificates affected.
HYDERABAD: Several citizens seeking birth certificates were put to hardship with the eSeva centres refusing to accept any fresh applications or issuing completed ones on Thursday.

The release of Intermediate results and rush to seek marks memos and grades sheets by students led to the shutting down of online services of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

“Since their server could not handle the rush, eSeva authorities decided not to accept birth or death certificate applications or issue them at all its centres,” senior municipal officials said.

500 applications

Every day as many as 500 applications are accepted in the centres ever since the job was entrusted to the department last year.

Though the GHMC stopped accepting or issuing such certificates from any of its offices or online, many applicants made rounds to the circle offices and GHMC head office seeking certificates.

“Last month's non-cooperation stir has led to a huge backlog of 8,000 which we could clear with much difficulty with the staff working during weekends too. Now we will have 3,000 applications waiting to be processed,” said officials.

Citizens have to pay Rs.50 per certificate and if they want it to be sent by post anywhere within the city limits an additional fee of Rs.40 has to be paid.

An extra Rs.20 has to be paid if the certificate is to be posted to any place outside the GHMC limits.

Citizens furious

This is not the first time that eSeva server snag has led to disruption in the issuing of certificates and that is what is making citizens furious. “They should be strengthening their infrastructure instead of stalling certain works at their whims and fancies. We have nowhere to go as municipal offices are not accepting applications directly,” complained an applicant.

Interestingly, Mayor B. Kartika Reddy and fellow corporators have been asking that such services be opened at all the citizen service centres in the 18 circle offices and the issue was raised at the recent council meeting.
