The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) on July 17 released the fifth round of seat allotment results. Although the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) is responsible for conducting the counselling process for JEE Main rank holders seeking admissions in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IITs) and other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs), the fifth round of JoSAA counselling will also release the list under NIT+ system.
The NIT+ system includes 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, three SPAs and 33 other GFTIs seats for providing admissions in various undergraduate degree programmes such as engineering, technology, and architecture.
Candidates allotted seats in the NIT+ system during the JoSAA 2024 counselling process need to pay the partial admission fee (PAF) by July 23. This fee is mandatory for those who received a seat allocation in any round of JoSAA 2024 and remain within the NIT+ system.
Failure to pay the PAF by the deadline signifies rejection of the allocated seat. The vacant seat will then be offered to candidates in the upcoming CSAB 2024 special rounds. The fees for the SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD and ST-PwD candidates is Rs 20,000 and for all other candidates is Rs 45,000. Once the admission is confirmed, the PAF can be adjusted with the final institute admission fee but is non-refundable.
To allocate seats for the NIT+ system, candidates are also assigned a state code of eligibility, which means the code of the state from where the candidate has first appeared Class 12 (or equivalent) examination. The codes of the states are the same as those given in the JEE Main 2024 information bulletin. It is important to note that the state code of eligibility does not depend upon the native place or the place of residence of the candidate, a statement on the JoSAA information brochure said.
In addition to the distribution of programme seats based on categories of candidates, seats for academic programmes offered by NITs, IIEST Shibpur and PEC Chandigarh are distributed into the home state quota and other states quota.
“Home State quota” is only for candidates whose home state/ Union Territory, as determined by the state code of eligibility, is the same as the state/ UT in which the institute is located and “Other States quota” includes all the states and union territories except the home state.
