KG to PG: Residential system mooted

Hyderabad: The officials of the Education Department have proposed to establish residential schools to take forward the TRS government?s flagship programme ? KG to PG free education
In a brainstorming session chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari at Commission rate of School Education here on Friday, the officials mooted for residential system of education under the programme.

Officials were of the view that social residential schools had made good progress. Having more number of residential schools would benefit students and also help effective implementation of the scheme. ?Results from Social Welfare residential schools are commendable and they have got good response from people. Hence, we have proposed to have residential system under scheme,? a senior official of Education Department said.

The officials are now focusing their attention on what should be done in the case of primary education because there cannot be residential schools for children, sources said. The brainstorming session was attended by Telangana Public Service Commission, Chairman, Prof Ghanta Chakrapani, Advisor to Government K V Ramana Chary, Educationist Chukka Ramaiah, Higher Education, Principal Secretary, Rajeev R Acharya, Commissioner of School Education T Chiranjeevulu and among others.

To improvise and modernize the teaching methods, an additional training for the teachers was also mooted by the officials. According to the sources, officials also proposed to include the vocational education into the scheme. A top official of Education Department said concept papers on the scheme are in the making.

Another brainstorming would be held on February 18 or 19 for finalizing the fundamentals before submitting to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for an approval. According to sources, a public debate would be organized after an approval from Chief Minister. ?Teachers, parents and all stakeholders will be consulted soon,? an official said.
