March 10 Inter exam not postponed - Inter exams as per original schedule

HYDERABAD: Putting an end to the prolonged suspense, the State government finally announced its decision to conduct the annual examinations for SSC and Intermediate “as per the original schedule” without alteration of the dates fixed for any subject.

This, in effect, means that the English paper of Intermediate II year will be conducted as announced earlier on March 10 in spite of the ‘Million March' being organised in the State capital at the behest of the Telangana joint action committee (T-JAC).

The government had also asked the Centre not to change the schedule of the CBSE examinations for different classes with a view to synchronising the results of all these examinations to ensure better admission prospects for the students later.

The decision was taken by the Education Department after Minister for Secondary Education K. Parthasarathy discussed the issue with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy here on Saturday. An important input that went into taking this decision was the announcement of the Telangana employees on Friday to suspend their non-cooperation agitation.

About 19 lakh students are appearing for Intermediate (March 7 to 24) and 12 lakh for SSC (March 24 to April 7) examinations in the State this year. In Hyderabad alone, over three lakh students are taking the SSC examinations.

Mr. Parthasarathy, who issued dos and don'ts to district education officers through a video conference later, told this correspondent that arrangements were being made to ply special buses to transport students to examination centres in Hyderabad. Police would be deployed in adequate strength at sensitive spots.

Enormous pressure

Sources said the government took the final decision to go ahead with the original schedule, going by enormous pressure from parents and students, especially in Telangana region where academic schedules are already disturbed by agitations.

Another key factor was the offer by contract lecturers to attend duty following an order issued by the government to pay them minimum time-frame scales.
