M.Com. course in Urdu medium

Hyderabad: An M.Com. course in Urdu medium will commence at the Indrapriyadarshni Government Postgraduate College for Women, Nampally, from the current academic year. Three posts have already been sanctioned for the course, announced D.N. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University.

He was addressing a seminar on the “contributions of Maulana Azad on national education policy”, organised by the All India Urdu Educational Committee here on Saturday.

Prof. Reddy also promised a multimedia centre and a spoken-English course for minority students at the college. He sought financial assistance from UGC in this regard. Prof. Reddy further urged the UGC Chairman, Ved Prakash, to consider conferring the deemed university status on this campus which had classes from KG to PG.

Prof. Reddy recalled the contributions made by Maulana Azad as the first Education Minister and felt it was appropriate that the UGC should institute a chair in his name at the Osmania University.

In his address, Prof. Prakash asked the NGOs to join the government in the fight against illiteracy. He regretted that Maulana Azad's desire of achieving cent per cent literacy remained a dream even decades after gaining independence.

The UGC Chairman wanted the enrolment of children in schools to be increased.
