Ministers to decide Inter board division

A final decision on the bifurcation of the Board of Intermediate Education is to be taken during a meeting of education ministers of Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh. Officials said no policy decision on this had been taken, though the Telan-gana government was inclined to split the Board.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will also take a final call on the reintroduction of composite Sanskrit and Telugu in Classes IX and X syllabus. Top education department officials met education minister G. Jagadish Reddy on Thursday evening to discuss the BIE issue in the face of delays in preparation for next year's Intermediate exams.

Counterparts, Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Mr Jagadish Reddy, were scheduled to meet on Monday to resolve the Intermediate tussle, but the meeting was put off after Cyclone Hudhud hit Visakhapatnam. Mr Srinivasa Rao has been stationed in the coastal city since then to oversee relief works. However, the BIE has been asked to begin preparatory works for next year's Intermediate exams.

"No policy decision was taken today. A final decision will be taken after a joint meeting of the two education ministers takes place, probably in the next three or four days," a senior official said. The official added, "The Board has been asked to begin preparatory works keeping in mind the possible bifurcation of the BIE and so they would have enough question banks for different sets of question papers.?This would mean the BIE has to begin work as if it is already bifurcated.

Meanwhile, Minister G. Jagadish Reddy and senior officials have also decided to take the composite Sanskrit and Telugu subject issue to the CM. The subcommittee on FAST scheme will again meet on Friday to discuss the guidelines for the scheme.
