More students register to take CAT this year

Chennai: The number of candidates who have registered to take up the Common Admission Test (CAT) this year has increased by 22,718 as compared to last year. According to data provided by Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad the organising (IIM) institution for CAT 2015 as many as 2,18,664 candidates, including 1,49,408 male, 69,176 female and 80 transgenders have applied to sit for CAT 2015, slated for November 29. Commenting about the increase in registrations this year, former director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ranchi, Professor M.J. Xavier said when students find it difficult to get a job after their under-graduation, they pursue higher studies like MBA. ?Students continue their higher studies in the hope they will get a job after it, which reflects in this year?s increase in CAT registrations,? he said. According to a CAT aspirant, his engineering background in under-graduation combined with the management skills he would acquire in MBA would help him get a better job in a company with higher pay packet. The duration of the exam has been increased to 180 minutes instead of 170 minutes this year. Candidates will be allotted 60 minutes for answering questions in each section
