Supreme Court has finally given its verdict on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 age limit criteria on 31st March 2017. As per ANI reports, Supreme Court verdict allows the students whose age is above 25 years to appear for NEET 2017 examination, in short students above 25 years age are also eligible for NEET 2017 examination. The date for filling NEET 2017 application forms has been extended till 5th April 2017.
The apex court is expected to hear plea whether to conduct NEET in Urdu. The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) had requested the court to direct the inclusion of Urdu as a medium in which students can attempt NEET 2017. Earlier, the student organisation had demanded the MCI to include Urdu so that the fate of students who formally studied in Urdu medium may not be left at stake
On 10th March 2017, the Centre had submitted before the apex court that it is open to the idea of conducting NEET exams, a common entrance test for admissions in MBBS and BDS courses across the country, in Urdu from the next session. Later on, the Centre, said it would be impossible to include the provision for NEET 2017.
As per the official notification issued by the Central Broad of Secondary Education (CBSE), the NEET will be held in 10 languages: Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya and Kannada. Mohammad Ali Sheikh, a senior associate of Students Islamic Organisation of India, said the government's move is unjust to exclude Urdu language from NEET UG 2017.
NEET 2017 will be conducted on 7th May 2017 for admissions to undergraduate courses in medical and dental colleges. Last year, the Centre made NEET mandatory for admissions in all-India medical/dental colleges in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The examination is held for admission to MBBS/BDS courses in India in medical/dental colleges run with the approval of Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the ministry of health and family welfare, except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament i.e AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry.
