NEET Date Set, Syllabus out

The Medical Council of India (MCI) on Friday finalised the syllabus for the all-India common entrance test for admission to MBBS courses and fixed May 13 for holding the exam next year. The final core syllabus and other relevant documents are available on the NeetUG tan on the MCI website: http://www.mci.org.

However, the Andhra Pradesh government has not taken any decision so far on whether to join Neet. Officials in the higher education department clarified that the MCI has only uploaded the “final syllabus” for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) on its website on Friday, and this does not mean that all states are bound to adopt the test.

“The CM has already written a letter to the Centre seeking time till 2013 to adopt NEET. We are awaiting a reply from the Union health ministry,” said Dr Rajashekar Reddy, secretary, APSCHE.
Sources said it is not possible for MCI to conduct NEET unless it is notified by the Union health ministry. They said Union health minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, has already clarified that his ministry will hold consultations with all the states before taking a final decision on NEET.

The issue is likely to come up for discussion at a review meeting to be conducted by the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy with officials on Saturday. The MCI today said time was crucial in holding the test. “We are ready and so is the CBSE. We are waiting for the ministry to notify the same. We hope it will be done soon,” an MCI official said. The core syllabus on the MCI website contains a detailed list of topics which the NEET-UG will cover in respect of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
