NEET Plea in High Court today

The government is devising plans to protect the interests of Eamcet medical students, if it fails to get favourable orders from HC State tries for exemption against medical entrance test. The state government is still attempting to get exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MBBS admissions for this year, and will file a petition in this regard in the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday.

However, in the meantime it has initiated steps to issue notification for Eamcet-2012 as per the original schedule. The government is of the view that Intermediate BiPC students have to take the Eamcet anyway, irrespective of clearing Neet, if they want to take admission to courses like dental, agriculture, veterinary, nursing, home science etc.

Neet has been devised to reduce the burden of appearing for multiple tests nationally, but it will not serve this purpose for students from AP. Ironically, Neet will force Inter BiPC students to appear for multiple tests when they sat for just one Eamcet all these years. The AP State Council of Higher Education is expected to hold a meeting in the last week of this month to select the universities that will conduct the common entrance tests (CETs), including Eamcet, for admission to professional courses for the next academic year.

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological UniversityHyderabad has been conducting Eamcet for the last
13 years and is prepared to conduct the exam again this year though Osmania University and Andhra University are also evincing interest in conducting Eamcet this year. The government is also devising alternative plans to protect the interests of Eamcet medical students, in case it fails to get favourable orders from the Andhra Pradesh High Court exempting students from Neet for this year. The government has planned to fill MBBS seats first with students who cleared Neet and then offer the unfilled seats to the students who qualified in the Eamcet.
