NEET results out

AHMEDABAD: The results of the first National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS and other undergraduate courses in medical colleges across the country were declared on Wednesday. Over 3.66 lakh students have cleared the test nationally. In Gujarat, 17,000 have qualified for admission. Officials said that 32,000 students had appeared in the examination from Gujarat.

However, for admission to the state's medical and paramedical colleges, the Gujarat government has already decided to stick to the scheme under which the score of Gujarat Common Entrance test and the marks obtained in HSC examination are considered in 40:60 ratio.

The first-ever NEET was conducted by the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) and held at 1251 centres in the state. The qualifying cut-off for the general category is 50 percentile. According to officials, of the 3,66,317 students who have cleared the test nationally, 1,57,214 candidates are from the general category. The results were prepared on the basis of qualifying criteria prescribed by the Medical Council of India and the Dental Council of India.
