New Education Policy to Suit Industry Needs

For this, the government is contemplating a new policy ‘III’ - Industry, Institution and Interaction. The proposed curriculum will arrange an interaction between educational institutions and industries.

III is likely to be debated in the Cabinet meeting, where a fine tuning will be done by the council of ministers, sources said. Education minister G Jagdeeshwar Reddy and IT minister KT Rama Rao held a meeting with the representatives of industry and educationalists at the Secretariat here on Thursday on the issue. The IT minister informed the industrialists that Telangana state would change the existing education system completely and bring a new syllabus that suits the needs of the industry.

Besides change in curriculum, the experts in industry would be allowed to teach the students in classrooms. Rama Rao said that the government was also planning to set up Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK). This would increase the employability of the students and the industry too would get trained workforce right from Day One of the recruitment of the employee.

The state government is also contemplating to enact a law to bring apprenticeship or practice school that would impart work skills to students. The training institutions would be set up where the industries are located. Rama Rao said that the government would set up a network with students to start companies.

The meeting was held in the backdrop of a large number of engineering and other graduates coming out every from universities, but not getting suitable jobs as they lack work knowledge and skills. Rama Rao wanted to know from FICCI, CII and Nasscom and other software industrialists about their requirements to change the curriculum accordingly. ‘’We want to bring revolutionary changes in the syllabus,” Rama Rao told them. Not merely changing the syllabus, the government would also upgrade the faculty, he assured. Representatives of industry and educationalists told the ministers that the education system should be based on practical knowledge.
