New selection process for IIIT

HYDERABAD : The selection of students for admissions into IIITs at Basar, Nuzividu and Idupulapaya will undergo a change this year.

Until last year, each `revenue mandal' was taken as a unit to set the benchmark for selection of students. However, for this year, each `university region' would be treated as a unit for selections.

The proposal to this effect has been put forth for approval in the governing council meeting of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) that is scheduled on Saturday.

In October, 2010, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had declared that the system of treating a revenue mandal as unit for selecting students was unconstitutional and against the Presidential Order with regard to local and non-local quota.
