OU colleges in Nalgonda transferred to MGU

HYDERABAD: Colleges in the Nalgonda district that were earlier under the jurisdiction of Osmania University were handed over to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda, at a meeting held at the OU on Monday.

V. Kishan Rao, Registrar, Osmania University, formally handed over the letter of transfer of colleges in Nalgonda district to Narender Reddy, Registrar, Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda.

There are 163 colleges comprising 82 U.G. and P.G. colleges, 47 colleges of education, 29 MBA & MCA colleges, three pharmacy colleges, one law college and oriental college in Nalgonda district with a total student enrolment of 21,853.

D.N. Reddy, In-charge Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University said that the taking over of large number of different types of colleges would enhance the visibility and contribute to the momentum and academic vibrancy of the new university.

K. Narsimha Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi University, who initiated this exercise, said that assumption of control of so many institutions was an opportunity as well a challenge for the newly established university.

Till the establishment of Telangana University, Palamur University and Mahatma Gandhi University, the jurisdiction of Osmania University comprised five districts of Telangana - Rangareddy, Medak, Nizamabad, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar, including twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Last year, the colleges in Mahabubnagar district were transferred to Palamur University. This year Mahatma Gandhi University expressed readiness to take control of colleges in Nalgonda district.

Accordingly, discussions have taken place to do the ground work for transfer.

C. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, director, Directorate of Academic Audit, OU, was present.
