Parents' complain that SSC help lines are busy

Hyderabad: The SSC-2011 exams may be running smoothly barring some isolated malpractice incidents, but complaints are pouring in on the helplines about everything from the lack of furniture and basic amenities at exam centres, the distance between residence and exam centres to reports of mistakes on hall tickets.

Worried parents, who have called on these helplines, also say that officials attending calls are hostile and rarely offer help.

"There was a printing mistake in my daughter's hall ticket. While she was to appear for Telugu exam on March 24, her hall ticket had the code for Composite English subject. When we called an assistant commissioner for help, he was rather hostile and did not help," said a parent of a student who is taking the examination at Anantapur. "Officials even refuse to direct us to someone else for help," said a parent.

However, officials have a different view. "Some parents are worried about almost everything. They call us three to four times a day without proper reason," said an official.

The officials claimed that most calls are baseless with many parents calling to complain about malpractices, which they say are being checked in any case.

Pronoti Suhasini Kavuri, director of government examinations, stated that even her personal number has been publicised as a helpline.

"We have addressed almost every complaint. We are perfectly equipped to handle such calls," said Kavuri. Most of the calls are from districts other than Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, BIE officials said.
