PG Diploma in Tourism and Environmental Law: New course from National Law University

With a view to provide an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the existing issues of sustainable tourism, with a special focus on socio-cultural , legal and policy issues, the National Law University, Delhi (NLUD), in collaboration with WWF India, conducts a Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism and Environmental Law.

"The programme dwells on the relationship between tourism and the environment at a global and regional level. It would be useful to all tourism providers and prospective tourism producers. It aims to assist professionals and fresh graduates to develop a better understanding of the tourism industry especially in relation to those working in areas of ecotourism ," says Moulika Arabhi, director, Centre for Environmental Law, WWF, India.

The programme comprises five modules. Of these, four modules cover technical theory papers and one is a project report. The areas covered include introduction of tourism, economy of tourism, business proposition, link between tourism and environment , nature tourism, safe practices, etc. The programme is taught through different methods including case studies, court orders, judgments, etc. The programme is open to graduates from any stream and working professionals with minimum two years' experience in a relevant field. "Students who complete the programme can make a mark as service providers in the tourism or transport industry," she says.

The fee for the programme is Rs 15,000. The intake capacity of the programme is 30 and applications can be made all around the year. Applicants are selected on the basis of a telephonic interview, which is followed by a one to-one discussion. The next intake is slated for March 2014.
