Public Service Commission limbo in Telangana affects students

While the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission has been issuing notifications on a regular basis for different recruitments, students in Telangana state are distraught as the Telangana Public Service Commission is yet to start functioning. The APPSC has issued notification for admissions to the reputed Rashtriya Indian Military College, like all other state PSCs. However, the absence of a functional TPSC in Telangana state means no notification was issued for the aspirants in Telangana.

Lobby groups, like the TRS-affiliated Progressive Recognized Teachers’ Union met chief secretary Rajiv Sharma and apprised him about the issue. Mr Sharma directed the education department officials to issue a standalone notification for RIMC before the last date, i.e. September 30, so that students don't lose out. However, the huge delay in the formation of the TPSC is a problem. Educationist Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani was asked by the state government to take up the chair of the TPSC, but an official decision is yet to be taken on this. Names of the five members of the commission are also yet to be finalized.

The Union Public Service Commission was authorized to carry out recruitments in the new state, till the TPSC is fully functional, but the UPSC is not ready to do so. As a result, all recruitments in the new state have come to a standstill. "The government is doing something for every section of society. Only the students are ignored. TPSC has to be formed hastily so that recruitments can be taken up," Dr P. Madhusudhan Reddy, chairman, Telangana Government Junior Lecturers' Association, said.
