Re-exam: Candidates Seek a Month's Time

With the controversial PG Medical Entrance test conducted by Dr NTR Health University more or less heading towards cancellation and the CID investigation revealing that there are irregularities, aspirants are now only hoping for adequate time before they appear for a re-examination.

Students say they need at least one month's time for preparation if the governor is to order holding of a fresh examination. It is to be seen whether the university will be able to consider the views of the aspirants and still implement the Medical Council of India's stipulation that admission process for PG medical courses across the country for year 2014-15 should be finished by July 10.

The aspirants, who are eagerly awaiting the governor's announcement, believe that they have another gruelling task ahead of them before appearing for re-examination. "The questions in the PGMET cover 19 subjects. Even, if a re-examination is held in 20 days, it will be difficult to prepare. Since we have been protesting close to 10 days now, it will be difficult for us to get into examination mode right away. A minimum of one month's time is required from the date of announcement," said a medical student.

Speaking to Express, a senior official of Dr NTR health University exuded confidence that they would be able to conduct the re-examination within the stipulated time as per the MCI academic calendar. "As re-examination seems certain, we need four to six weeks to finish the entire process starting from setting the question paper to finishing the admission process."

As per the schedule, counselling process is to end by May 31. But the university need not go at break-neck speed to conduct the re-exam, says AP Junior Doctors Association member Imran Ali.

"The process was delayed last year due to legal issues. The university can approach the state government for relaxation of the deadline. Under any circumstances, students need at least one month to prepare," he asserts.
