Shortage of staff may delay Inter results

Hyderabad: The evaluation of Intermediate answer sheets may have not yet begun, but indications are that results will be delayed by at least a fortnight.

The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) on Friday revealed that of the 60,000 evaluators it planned to rope in, just about 36,525 lecturers had sent their consent letters to BIE — the crisis is said to be rooted in the reluctance of junior colleges to depute their lecturers for the job. This development would not only derail the Inter results schedule, but would also delay another batch of the results, namely the Eamcet.

Several junior colleges are likely to be sending less than 20 per cent of their eligible staff for the evaluation process. For instance, Sri Chaitanya Junior College (No-15280), which has over 1,100 inter students, has sent the names of only 12 lecturers. Similarly, Narayana Junior College (No-15191), which has about 1,200 students, sent the names of only 11 lecturers to the board. As per the rule book, each college needs to nominate lecturers in proportion to the number of its students appearing for the inter exam.

P Madhusudhan Reddy, general secretary, Government Junior College Lecturers’ Association, stated that while the evaluation deadline is April 15, it would now be delayed by another 15 days. The results would in turn be delayed by over two weeks. This delay would derail the schedule for Inter supplementary examinations. “The board is aware private colleges are not giving them the correct number of eligible lecturers. The BIE should take action,” he said.

Meanwhile, Eamcet officials said they would require the Inter results by May end. Even last year, BIE had submitted the marks list in July and delayed the declaration of Eamcet ranks. The Eamcet officials have scheduled to release scores by May 23.
