SSC board to bar, fine erring exam evaluators

HYDERABAD : The SSC board has framed a set of stringent norms to check erratic evaluation of answer scripts from this year. The board has been drawing flak for faulty evaluation since the last few years.

Under the new norms, teachers will be barred from evaluation duties for a period of one year if they commit mistakes ranging from 2 to 5 during evaluation. The ban will be for 2 years if they commit mistakes ranging from 6 to 9 and for three years for mistakes above 10.

Moreover, they will be imposed a penalty ranging from `500 to `2,000 based on the variation of marks before and after revaluation of answer scripts.

Though the board had sent proposals to this effect last month for approval from the government, it has been pending due to pressure exerted by various teachers unions and teacher MLCs.

However, the government ratified them by making slight changes to reduce the ban period and penalty amount. The new set of norms will come into force from the ongoing SSC exams, the evaluation process for which will begin this week in all the district head quarters across the state.

Evaluators will be issued warning notices and showcause notices if the variation of marks ranges from 1 to 5.

If the variation of marks is from 6 to 10, the chief examiners at evaluation centres will be imposed a penalty of `500, while it will be `250 in case of special assistants and scrutinisers.

If the variation is from 11 to 20 marks, the penalty has been fixed at `1,000 and `500 respectively. For a variation of 21 to 30 marks, the penalty will be `1,500 and `750 respectively. For a variation of above 31 marks, the penalty will be `2,000 and `1,000.
