Staff selection test in three languages

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has decided to make its question paper `tri-lingual' while recruiting for the Central armed forces.This is to enable job aspirants appear for written tests in regional languages. At present, the SSC provides `bi-lingual' question papers, wherein the written tests are conducted only in English or Hindi. Soon, questions will be printed in Telugu as well.

N.K. Raghupathy, the SSC chairman, said the present bi-lingual format has resulted in fewer people getting selected from Andhra Pradesh for the Central armed forces.
“We have sent a proposal to the ministry of home affairs to conduct written tests in regional languages. the proposal is expected to get the approval soon,“ Mr Raghupathy, told reporters here on Wednesday .

The SSC has been struggling to fill the vacancies in several states. The SSC has notified 11,441 posts in various Central armed forces like CRPF, CISF etc. for Andhra Pradesh.

However, it could fill only 1,638 posts as aspirants failed to clear the test.

“This year, we have earmarked 13,709 posts for Andhra Pradesh. This is expected to increase to 20,000 later. Introduction of Telugu question paper will help us in filling the posts,” Mr Raghupathy added.

The SSC has also sought the help of the state government in spreading awareness in rural and interior areas.

“Most of the posts are reserved to candidates from Naxal-affected districts. These posts cannot be diverted to other candidates,” Mr Raghupathy said.
