State Level Eligibility (SLET) to be Revived

The State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) which was abolished in 1998 in the state will be revived soon.

The state government has asked the Osmania University to conduct the test in December.

As per the revised norms of the University Grants Commission issued in 2009, qualifying in National Eligibility Test (NET) or SLET is mandatory for candidates for appointment as faculty in universities and colleges.

The OU has constituted a three-member committee in February 2011 on the directions of the state government to prepare a report for submission to the UGC for getting ‘accreditation’ to conduct the SLET. The committee submitted a report last week. It recommended that all the norms and procedures being followed in NET should be followed in SLET. “All the subjects would be covered in SLET.

The norms and conditions for SLET would be similar to that of NET. We have sent the syllabus and exam pattern to the UGC for approval.” said Dr Rajashekar Reddy, secretary, AP State Council of Higher Education.
