State to Conduct its own tests for BE, MBA, MCA

Students from Andhra Pradesh have to brace themselves up for writing multiple tests for admission to professional courses in the next academic year (2013-14).

The state government has decided to conduct its own entrance tests for admissions to engineering, MBA and MCA courses as usual despite the AICTE and the Medical Council of India (MCI) asking it to adopt nationallevel common entrance tests for professional courses.

While AICTE asked the government to adopt JEE (Mains) for engineering and pharmacy admissions, and CMAT for MBA,
MCA admissions, the MCI is pitching for Neet-UG for MBBS and BDS courses.

The state government has decided to continue with Eamcet in 2013 for engineering and medical admissions, though a final decision on conducting Eamcet for MBBS course will depend on the outcome of a case in the Supreme Court.
Even if the Supreme Court issues orders in favour of Neet, AP students still have to opt for Eamcet medical stream exam to seek seats in veterinary, agriculture, home science, nursing and other allied courses.

It has also decided to conduct ICET in 2013 for MBA and MCA admissions.

?We will announce the schedule for Eamcet and ICET in the first week of January 2013. The admissions for engineering, pharmacy, MBA and MCA courses will be made based on our own tests.

?A decision on MBBS, BDS admissions will be taken based on the outcome of the case in the Supreme Court,? said Prof Jayaprakash Rao, chairman, AP State Council of Higher Education.
AICTE, MCI want Cet for BE, MBBS AICTE wants state to adopt Jee (Mains) for engineering and pharmacy courses; CMAT for MBA and MCA. The MCI told the state to choose Neet-UG for MBBS and BDS admissions.
