Telangana, AP varsities lag behind Digital India project

Hyderabad: While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pitching hard for the Digital India project, universities and institutes in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have not taken a cognizance of it. The University Grants Commission (UGC), as part of the Digital India project, had asked all State Universities and institutes to submit the status of information technology penetration in their varsities.
The Commission sought information on penetration of optical fibre connectivity, LAN facility and WiFi facility in universities. According to the UGC, most universities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh haven’t submitted a report yet. Telangana Universities and Institutes that have not submitted: Osmania University, Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University – Hyderabad, National Institute of Technology – Warangal, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, ICFAI foundation for higher education, Indian Institute of Technology – Hyderabad, Satavahana University, Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Mahatma Gandhi University, Telangana University and Palamuru University.

In Andhra Pradesh: Andhra University, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Sri Padmavathi Mahila Vishwa Vidyalayma, Venkateswara Veterinary University, Venkateswara Vedic University, Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, Vikram Simhapuri University, Krishna University, Dr BR Ambedkar University, Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Vignan’s foundation for sciences, Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Rayalseema University, School of Planning and Architecture.

The Commission has sought the report in a prescribed format at the earliest as the initiative of Digital India is being monitored at the highest level of the Government of India.
