Telangana BIE gets recognition from COBSE

Hyderabad: The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education asked the candidates who are appearing for intermediate public examination, March, from the State and who applied for JEE Mains to upload the particulars of the board of qualifying examination.

The Board stated that students' pursuing intermediate under Telangana BIE should make necessary corrections regarding the Board of qualifying exam as Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education. As per the schedule given by the CBSE, the last date for online correction in the application form is Saturday.

Sources said that after reports in a section of the media over absence of Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TS BIE) in the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE), JEE Mains examination application form, the TS BIE has acted swiftly on it.

According to the officials of the Board, the matter was taken to the higher-ups and it was resolved. Recently, Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) has recognized TS BIE. As TS BIE option was not available, the students had to choose Andhra Pradesh BIE which could spell doom for the Telangana students.

With the recognition from the COBSE, the CBSE has added TS BIE in the JEE Main’s online application and Telangana students can choose TS BIE. Now the marks awarded by the TS BIE will be considered valid for the calculating percentile for the students for admissions into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institute of Technology.

The certificate issued by the Board will now be treated as an equivalent to similar certificates issued by other boards across the country. Dr P Madhusudhan Reddy, president, Government Junior Lecturers Association, said the Board should have acted much earlier as the issue created confusion among the students. “The students who are appearing from Telangana BIE will have Telangana cut off. Based on the 40 percentile, admissions will be made. Students need not worry,” he added.
