Telangana may not advance SSC Class I-IX exams

The government had earlier decided to advance the SSC Classes I to IX final exams by a fortnight to April 1, from the scheduled date of April 15. However, under pressure from private schools and following the intervention of Nizamabad MP K. Kavita, the decision is likely to be deferred.
The government is now considering to either not prepone the exams, or just by a week, if at all. The government had wanted to complete the exams early, so that students could prepare for the first State Formation Day on June 2. The private school lobby groups then approached Ms Kavita.
“We are not ready to hold final exams a fortnight early. We have had more holidays this academic year and have lost time. We had approached Ms Kavita and she has asked the government not to advance the exams,” S. Srinivasa Reddy, president, Telangana Private Schools Managements’ Association, said. Sources believe that schools don’t want exams to be held early due to fee-related reasons. Sources added that the government has already decided to roll back the decision, though a formal order is awaited.
