Telengana Govt against two separate Medical Exams

The Telangana government is opposed to two separate medical entrance examinations for government and private medical colleges for admission into MBBS and BDS seats. "We want the existing entrance system to continue. We will not accept separate entrance examination for private colleges. If the private institutions insist on the same, the government will not hesitate to take legal recourse," deputy chief minister and medical and health minister T Rajaiah told. "The common entrance exam which is existing will continue as it is," Rajaiah said. It may be recalled that the private medical colleges wanted a separate entrance examination for filling MBBS and BDS seats in private medical colleges. Till, now there is only one entrance examination Eamcet for medical admissions.

However, the private colleges wanted a separate Common Entrance Test (CET) for private colleges, which is proposed to be supervised by JNTU Hyderabad. The State Council of Higher Education (SCHE) mooted separate entrance tests for government and medical colleges from 2014-15 academic year. This is subject to ratification by both AP and Telangana state governments. With the Telangana government opposing the proposal, it will not be possible to change the pattern of the entrance examination.

The successor states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh too have to come to an understanding on the fee structure proposed by the Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC) for both convener and management quota seats. This is because; the admissions in both the states will be common for ten years as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
