Three names shortlisted for Mahatma Gandhi University VC post

After asking some tricky questions including why our varsities were unable to produce Nobel Laureates, the search committee has finalised three names for the post of vicechancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda. The names have been passed on to the chancellor and Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, for final selection.

As part of ‘de-politicising’ the process of selecting VCs, the committee grilled the aspirants at Lake View Guest House on Sunday by asking them about how they would mobilise funds to make the university financially self-reliant and whether they had access to international universities.

This was the first time in the history of the state that personal interviews were held to select VCs. The aspirants were also asked to give a ‘power point presentation’ for 10 minutes on their vision for the university.

The three members of the search committee were Dr Rajan Welukar, VC, University of Mumbai, former Chief justice of Karnataka High Court, Mr Y.Bhaskar Rao, and principal secretary of higher education Mr C.R. Biswal.

The search committee shortlised 24 candidates out of 250 applicants but only 20 turned up for interview
