Trying to allow B.Ed. Students for SGT Exam: Ganta

Stating that the State government was making efforts to allow B.Ed. students to take SGT grade examination, Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao said the government has written a letter to National Council For Teacher Education(NCTE) to allow the State's B.Ed. students along with Diploma in Education (D.Ed. ) holders to take SGT examination being conducted by DSC. Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat here on Thursday, Ganta said the NCTE had allowed B.Ed. students to take SGT grade examinations till 2010 and hence the State government had asked the body to allow its students to take the SGT exams till 2016. "If the NCTE grants permission we would allow the B.Ed. students to take the exams", he said.

On Supreme court verdict on second phase EAMCET counseling, the Minister said the government would react only after going through the judgment copy. The court in its verdict on Thursday ordered the APSCHE not to conduct the second phase counseling. About 65,000 engineering seats would fall vacant due to the cancellation of second phase of EAMCET counseling.

He said that he would be holding a meeting of education department officials on September 17 to discuss about the status of education in the state. In order to improve the quality of education in the grassroots level the State government would set up "cluster schools" in all the mandals in the state, he said. "Such schools which do not have sufficient students and teaching staffs would be brought to cluster schools and provided quality education", he said.
