Uncertainty Looms over timing of EAMCET Counseling for Students from Telangana

Uncertainty looms large over the timing of the EAMCET-2014 counseling for admissions into Telangana engineering institutions with the newly appointed Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) Chairman T Papi Reddy declaring that the government will have its own counseling for its students. The AP State Council of Higher Education, as announced earlier, began the process of counseling with verification of certificates of students all over Andhra Pradesh, while in Hyderabad, the verification of certificates of students who have qualified for NCC, sportsman, physically challenged and wards of ex-servicemen quotas was taken up.

APSCHE Chairman Prof L Venugopal Reddy said on 6th August that counseling for Telangana students would being on Aug 9th but with Papi Reddy saying that Telangana would have its own counseling the issue is back to square one.

The Telangana government wants to wait till the Supreme Court gives its final verdict on August 11 as to when the counseling should begin and till such time there is no way the counseling can begin even for Andhra students since counseling has to be done for all the institutions in both the states simultaneously.

After taking over as the chairman of TSCHE on Thursday morning, Papi Reddy said that there was no need for students to panic. The Telangana Government would not allow even one student to suffer on any count. "We will have separate counseling for our students," he said but pointed out that the admissions process would be over by the end of this month as per the apex court's interim direction. He said that the issue of when to start the counseling for the Telangana students would be discussed at the meeting of TSCHE on 8th August.

On7th August, certificate verification took place for students who had obtained ranks upto 5,000 in the general category. Certificate verification, which will continue till August 23, was held at 34 centres in the 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh.
