US President Barack Obama plans to allow foreign science graduates of US universities to stay and work in the country for up to 29 months, a move that will benefit thousands of Indian students there.

According to a Bloomberg News report, Obama plans to expand a programme that gives work permits of 29 months to foreign graduates of US universities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. India's software industry body Nasscom said such a move, besides alleviating the shortage of skilled workers in the United States, will also help Indian students and potentially the Indian technology industry.
