While the change in Class 11 exams will be brought in from the upcoming academic session, a similar change will be brought in for Class 12 exams from the 2025-26 academic session.The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) today introduced semester system for Class 11 from the 2024-25 academic session.While the change in Class 11 exams will be brought in from the upcoming academic session, a similar change will be brought in for Class 12 exams from the 2025-26 academic session.“The School Education Department, Govt. of WB has given us the permission vide memo no. 340-SED-‘11099/312/2023 dated 06.03.2024 to introduce the Semester System at the Higher Secondary Level from the Academic Session 2024-25 for Class XI and, subsequently from the Academic Session 2025-26 for Class XII,” the official notice stated.The detailed syllabus and semester wise implementation strategy will be uploaded soon.This decision has been announced after a four-member committee was formed in December 2023 to oversee plans of revising syllabus for 47 subjects taught in the higher secondary. The four-member committee comprised two school representatives, one university representative and one college representative. However, for 12 to 13 subjects, the committee had a fifth representative who will be experts from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBFC). The committees were given a deadline till January 2024 to submit their proposals (for revision).Meanwhile, WBCHSE recently released the Class 12 exam datesheet for the 2025 board exams. The West Bengal council Class 12 exams for next academic year will be held between March 3 and March 18, 2025. Similarly, class 10 examinations of the West Bengal board for the year 2025 will be conducted between February 12 and 24. This year, the West Bengal board exams were conducted from February 16 and 29.
