Wrong answer sheets given in medical PG entrance test

Vijayawada: Homoeopathy and Ayurvedic doctors who appeared for the medical post-graduate entrance test here on Sunday were in for a shock when the invigilators gave them answer sheets for 100 marks, instead of 200 marks. The faux pas led to a delay of 30 minutes, much to the disgust of the candidates.

Officials of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences said that the answer sheets for 100 marks came packed from the printers accidentally, while they were supposed to be packed for 200 marks.

‘Mistake rectified’

According to sources, the university authorities allotted two centres for the test -- Siddhartha Government Medical College and Maris Stella College -- in the city. The test was scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

“We observed the mistake and alerted the staff, who rectified it within 30 minutes,” said the students.

However, the students complained that no grace period was given to them and they had to face a lot of confusion for no fault of theirs. More than 2,000 homoeopathy and ayurvedic medicos from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and other States attended the entrance test.

“In fact the officials thought of postponing the test, but when the candidates from the other States opposed this, the officials went ahead with the examination,” said Dr. Sonia Dubey, a candidate from Varanasi.

“It was an avoidable mistake by the officials. The candidates, for no reason, were put to difficulty. How can the government organise an important examination in such a negligent manner,” said Raja Viswa Teja, an Ayurvedic doctor, from Tirupati.

When contacted, Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor I.V. Rao said that no candidate was put to loss owing to the goof-up. However, contrary to the students’ observation that the exam was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the V-C said that the test was conducted without any hitch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
