Jadavpur University is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The National Institutional Ranking Framework has ranked it 14th among engineering institutes in India in 2019, 13th overall and 6th among universities. The University achieved complete academic autonomy status from the UGC in 2018. It was established in 1906 by the name of Bengal Technical Institute. After independence, the institute was converted into a university on 24 December 1955. Internationally, Jadavpur University ranked 601-650 by the QS World University Rankings of 2018,125 in Asia and 74 among BRICS nations. It was ranked 601-800 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2018, 127 in Asia and 99 among BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings in 2017. Jadavpur University is semi-residential, which at present operates out of two urban campuses: one in Jadavpur and another in Salt Lake.
