Rabindra Bharati University is  located in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was founded on May 8, 1962, under the Rabindra Bharati Act of the Government of West Bengal in 1961, to mark the birth centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is located at the Tagore family home, Jorasanko Thakur Bari. There are three major faculties Arts, Fine Arts and Visual Arts, housed in the Emerald Bower Campus while the original campus Jorasanko, now houses a museum, and hosts a number of events like Tagore’s birth and death anniversaries, or the annual University Convocation, to name just a few. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Performing Arts and Visual Arts under the Faculty of Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and other subjects under the Faculty of Arts. The University also offers Certificate courses, Diploma courses, Undergraduate Degree Courses, Postgraduate Degree Courses, Research/Doctoral-Level Courses and Distance Courses.
