BHU RET 2026 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must fulfill the prerequisites for admission to Banaras Hindu University's PhD program. Candidates may be required to meet the following BHU PhD eligibility requirements based on previous admission cycles:

  • Candidates should have a Master's degree from an accredited university in a relevant field.
  • While restricted categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) may have a concession of up to 5%, the unreserved category would normally require a minimum of 55% marks.
  • The RET may not apply to candidates who have passed the UGC-NET (JRF/LS), CSIR-NET, ICMR-JRF, DBT-JRF, GATE, or MPhil programs.
  • The BHU Research Entrance Test (RET) must be taken by those who do not fit into the exemption categories.

This eligibility structure ensures that only serious research aspirants who have demonstrated strong academic ability can apply. However, it might not be possible to validate the most recent BHU PhD qualifying requirements until the formal announcement is made.
